Getting to Little comfort farm is not terribly easy by public transport as we are a little way off the beaten track. There is a good train service from Exeter St David's a main line station to Barnstaple.(www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk ) From Barnstaple there is a regular bus service to Ilfracombe (www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southwest/devon/home/index.php ) The nearest bus stop is at Heddon Mills's crossroads, which is a mile and half from Little Comfort Farm. For the keen cyclist we are only four miles from the Tarka trail and we have plenty of space to store your bikes under cover at the farm. Once you are on holiday there is a lot of wonderful things to do and see within a six-mile radius to minimise the use of your car. How about a car free day from Little Comfort itself? You could start the day with animal feeding followed by a well-earned coffee. Then there is a peaceful public footpath up to the village of West Down where you can buy an ice cream for your journey home or enjoy a pub lunch at the crown Inn. On the way back to the far there are lovely spots to doze while the children dam the river and enjoy the peace and tranquillity the valley has to offer. The area is well supplied with other public paths and we hold a good stock of local guidebooks with a wide range of walks for all abilities. For the cyclists the local lanes are very quiet and there are a number of green lanes that are traffic free and then of course you have the 26-mile Tarka trail starting in Braunton, which offers off road cycling along the old railway line beside the Taw and Torridge estuaries. Many of our guests find they enjoy the valley so much that they spend at least one day of their holiday at home relaxing, picnicking, fishing and snoozing all key ingredients for a great holiday.
