Little Comfort Farm Environmental Policy
Little Comfort farm aims to offer a quality holiday experience to customers at the same time taking care to minimise environmental impact.
We aim to farm sustainably, to the best organic standards, and create a healthy product whilst protecting and enhancing the environment.
We will strive to make Little Comfort a truly sustainable enterprise to protect the long term future of wildlife and the environment and of all the people involved with us.
Strategic implementation The environmental policy applies to all aspects of our work. All staff at Little Comfort Farm share in the responsibility for the success of the Environmental Policy.
We will promote and implement our positive approach to sustainability that is rooted in this Environmental Policy, will ensure that the environmental Policy is communicated to all staff and that awareness of the policy is part of staff inductions.
The Policy will be regularly monitored and reviewed so it is relevant , up to date and is used across the whole business. The Manager is responsible for promotion, implementation, monitoring and review of the policy.
Energy and Fuel Use Energy efficiency is the key. We should chose the most energy-efficient options for all operations, favouring ‘green’ solutions where practicable. We should endeavour to avoid waste of energy wherever possible; staff and customers should be encouraged to turn off lights, heating, immersions and TV sets.
We use renewable energy to power electric fencing and light for the poultry houses using a wind turbine. All new light fittings use energy efficient bulbs and tubes; all replacements must be low energy bulbs.
Sustainable Water Management Water efficiency is the key to sustainable water management. To continually develop this area we should consider everything from the water source, usage and waste disposal. Our activities should protect and conserve our source of ground water, both in terms of abstraction of water and preventing pollution of the land and underlying aquifer.
