About the Farm
In its beautiful valley location folded in to the Devon hills and approached by a grass tufted lane, Little Comfort Farm occupies 70 acres of beautiful Devon countryside. We are passionate about our special piece of North Devon and love to share its delights with our holiday cottage guests.
The River Caen runs through the valley feeding a lake and pond with the meadows being a mixture of un-improved and semi-improved grassland. This grassland is grazed by a suckler herd of ruby red Devon cattle and a flock of Lleyn sheep. The farm is also home to a pair of West Country geese and a small flock of laying hens and is farmed organically to Soil Association standards.
The previous owners were interested in managing the land in the best possible interests of livestock and wildlife since leaving agricultural college in the 80’s and when they moved to Little Comfort Farm in 2000 they were able to use their knowledge and experience to reintroduce traditional farming methods which are so much better suited to a farm of this size. Farming organically has enabled a great deal of conservation work to be done.
The establishment of an idyllic farm trail gives visitors the freedom to explore the farm at all times of the year with opportunities to observe the farming cycle throughout the seasons.
